Witch Tip: Getting Started With Planetary Magic
Note: This is, as always, my personal experience of studying astrology and working with the planets for twenty-five years. There's some UPG in there. Your results may vary. My paradigm is based on creating relationships with the planets rather than demanding they obey your commands. This is what I mean by work with: begin the process of forging a relationship.
If you are looking for a place to start with planetary magic, work with the traditional planetary ruler of your Sun, Moon, or Ascendant - whichever of the three feels right.
They are as follows: Aries - Mars, Taurus - Venus, Gemini - Mercury, Cancer - the Moon, Leo - the Sun, Virgo - Mercury, Libra - Venus, Scorpio - Mars, Sagittarius - Jupiter, Capricorn - Saturn, Aquarius - Saturn, and Pisces - Jupiter.
If you are under the age of 30, I would steer you away from working with Saturn to start with and if you are under 25, I would steer you away from Jupiter as well. (as intermediary planets they require a bit of life experience to fully actualize)
The Sun and the Moon can be looked at a bit like parents. Most of the time, they like you and want to support your life and successes. Sometimes they can be bossy or naggy and they definitely will always think they know better than you.
Venus and Mars are like your besties, or sometimes, your siblings. They can be your wingman when you need them and will definitely beat somebody up if they've been bullying you. They may not always agree with you, but most times you can convince them to your side.
Mercury is a capricious bitch. They will play tricks on anyone, including you. They are endlessly convinceable so just be reasonable and you will probably get what you want (though sometimes in a roundabout way).
Jupiter doesn't have an inside voice. Thankfully, they tend to want the best for everybody. That includes people you don't like, though. You may have a problem with moderation if you work with Jupiter too often, some people like it that way.
Saturn is a buzzkill. Some buzzes need to be killed. Working with Saturn too much can lead you straight into depression. But if you need to stop something, get a handle on a situation, or just slow the fuck down, this is your slightly Scary Uncle. Intimidation x10.
Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto don't care because they don't have dominion over our everyday lives. And that's okay, they control the inevitability of change (Uranus), death (Pluto), and the Unknowable (Neptune). They can't be convinced because we cannot control the inevitability of change, death, and the unknowable. They happen to us - all we can do is accept it or (very occasionally) get out of the way.
Do you like my work? You can support me by tipping me on Kofi, commissioning me to write an astrological report for you, or signing up to become a monthly supporter of my writing.

ASTRO OBSERVATIONS III
Tumblr media
water moons are just so … love naive. it breaks my heart how much these people get taken advantage of. if you come across a manipulative, hard cored water moon, know that they’ve already been hurt too much. this especially goes for cancer moons. like when a crab closes its shell
i already spoke about capricorn and scorpio placements getting the most hurt in this life but i’ve noticed it’s somewhat different. capricorn’s pain is obvious and “logical”. these people couldn’t catch a break because saturn and pluto have been transiting the sign of capricorn and now aquarius so it’s decades od having two malefics going up and down on your placements. mother died, father left, grandma got ill, parents divorced.. whatever it was, naturally, when you hear their life story, it makes sense as to why they behave as rigid or even pessimistic and frustrated with others, with themselves. they’ve been through so much and their childhoods were one of the most difficult i’ve seen (especially aquarius/capricorn stellium). burdened by everything that happens, they usually buckle up and dig themselves in their work. work is the most favorable medicine for saturnians.
scorpio, on the other hand, might not even have any of these life circumstances. i’ve noticed plutonians can create their own misery. they can be healthy, employed, even have both parents, a house, friends../ yet somehow they’re suffering. this is because scorpio needs the wound to keep it going. it needs something to die over, then be reborn, because without it - there’s no point. it wouldn’t be a scorpio to begin with. say you might be going through a heartbreak. and you hurt, you buy icecream, you go shopping, cry for a while, then move on. regular life, it happens. plutonian going through a break up is like peeling the skin of your bones. it goes on and on. it can be years over something that can be finished in a month. they hurt with every cell in their body. everything is deep, everything is big, everything is an apocalipse. this is how scorpio/pluto processes hurt and betrayal and most often in secrecy. i say - the rest of the zodiac suffers, and then there’s scorpio
venus being harshly aspected by saturn could manifest as having an extremely low self esteem that you’re not even aware of. it could prolonge a happy relationship or any sort of relationship at all. if you do get into a relationship, make sure they are treating you right. there’s a good chance you have to work on your confidence a lot
i’ve witnessed libra mars be so peaceful about an issue that i wanted to pluck their words out with pliers. they can really swipe things under the rug and just stay aggressively silent. my father has this placement as well and i’ve seen him stand up for himself and loose his cool maybe - two times. other libra placements don’t have this sort of passiveness (except maybe libra rising) so idk where the stereotype on libra suns is coming from. also, i find libras to be much darker than people see them to be. maybe because there’s a good chance they’ll have some scorpio placements as well but. i think this sign needs a deeper analyses
SYNASTRY TIME! there is one guy who has loved me for the past three years no matter where he’d been and who he’d been with. whenever he sees me it all starts all over again and these are most significant synastry aspects that we have: - my saturn and mars square his moon (he is hurt all over again every time. i have a situation where i’m the moon and i was the hurt one. beware of malefics on your moon!) - my sun conjuncts his venus (this aspect seems very powerful be it in synastry or composite, but i don’t feel it much. my venus also conjuncts his sun and i see him as nothing but another friend) - his neptune opposite my venus and mars (he is the infatuated one, not me) - my moon, venus, mars and jupiter in his 8H (feels possessive over me, stares at me to the point i have to yell at him to stop, looks at me like a lost puppy, has no control over his dignity and if he sees another man flirting with me he gets mad and the rest of his night is ruined) - my ascendant conjunct his moon and my mc conjunct his sun (i have no idea how this plays out but it seems important)

the 21st century solar eclipse, or whatever
6:15 p.m. October 25 2024 after a bit of work
I clown a lot on Lestappen in my tags because while I admit that they would be the two racers in the current grid with the most potential for their generation's defining rivalry F1, they just don't interact enough for me to actually say it outright like that. Maybe because they're both still young at this level- Max started in 2015, Charles only three years later. They have parallel stories with different mythologies, so there's no friction to be found in their careers apart from the inchident- and even then they both look upon that moment lightheartedly now.
Their astrology actually does follow each other a bit. Aside from the fact that they literally were born sixteen* days apart, their rising signs follow each other- due to the directions, 16's 1H of self falls in 33's 12H of unconsciousness.
Traditionally, 33's ascendant point falling in 16's 2H of self-esteem and value systems would mean that 16 wouldn't notice him as much (2H is hidden from the 1H), 33 has the virtue of having Venus in Scorpio in his 12H- the planet that 16 does see, because it falls right in his 1H, which is incredibly interesting, because 16's Venus is conjunct 33's Ascendant point.
Despite their incredibly martial nature, 16 and 33 both see each other as a connection to be nurtured, not severed, and herein explains my earlier point that this is not a very direct rivalry.
Tumblr media
Synastry overlay of Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc. 16's AA confirmed which means it is accurate to the birth certificate. While 33's had A rating, the birth time came from a copy of an announcement on his own website based on what I assume is a newspaper clip on the day he was born, so that's a bit more reliable than other A-ratings.
To explain- as I mentioned in this post, the planets typically involved in motorsports are Mars and Saturn (with F1 also having Mercury involved in some capacity). When I mention "racing planets" in a racer's chart, I refer to these two, because Mars (speed, war, fuel, fire, combustion, shooting) and Saturn (time, pressure, heaviness, steel, iron) are also significators of war. All motorsports are tied in one way or another to innovations in engines** and transportation machinery that happened becauuuuse those people got booted out of a job*** and had to find some way to put their skills to work.
33 and 16 have Mars and Saturn in the same signs, due to the time it takes for either planets to move (Saturn stays in the same sign for approx. 2.5 years, Mars in 6-7 weeks). In theory, they both share the same potential for racing. Their fallen Saturn answers to Mars, and Mars is ruled by Jupiter in Aquarius. You would think they would have the same style of driving, and way of doing stuff, or that one person doesn't exceed the other.
However, no placement or aspect exists in a vacuum- you have to take the whole chart into consideration. And with these two, it always, always come down to Venus- the planet of beauty, resources, connection, and pleasure.
If Mars and Saturn (+Mercury) is F1 The Sport, then Venus, the planet that traditionally rules the arts (and therefore film and television) is F1 The Event.
Remember- both 33 and 16 are Libra suns. Their personality is ruled by their Venus sign, which sits completely differently in their charts, no matter how much they echo each other.
The difference is very, very clear in the public perception and the incredible imagery that basically writes itself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sagittarius also signifies foreign cultures as well as travel. F1 is a worldwide motorsport, with multicultural racers****, but here in Mexico (a country with a very beautiful and showy Leo Venus), we see the difference between these two Libra Suns. 33's Sagittarius rising with Mars in first = He wore the sombrero when he won the 2023 Mexico Grand Prix, coming up on the podium after he won the race (Mars = competition). He wore a cape with Checo a few days ago too! 16's Sagittarius Venus combined with Mars = He wore a whole mariachi costume and committed to the bit alongside his whole team at Ferrari during the 2024 Mexico GP (Venus = collaboration). He and Carlos wore luchador masks as well, but Carlos and his Virgo placements would not be caught dead repping something that's not his assigned uniform during a work event.
Libra Sun (fallen) opposite Aries Saturn (fallen)
Sun-Saturn aspects are common among racing drivers, especially since most of them got into the sport because of family. Condition of the Sun signifies the father in natal charts as well, which is why this placement sees the racing planet that is in charge of building a foundation and the progress of time. Both of them have been racing since kids, and 33 especially- a rude observation to make would be his dad sniping his mother, who was reportedly better at karting than her husband and her son's team principal but had to give up her dreams to be his mother.
16's Libra-Aries axis sits in the 12H-6H, which are houses of service and self-sacrifice (the disintegration of the self that comes from being of service). Unlike 33, he has Moon and Mercury in Libra involved in this axis. It's not just 16's father (Sun) who is involved in his work (6H), but also his mother (Moon) and sibling (Mercury).
33 lacks this. I've mentioned in previous posts that the planets that traditionally signify women and creation in his life (Moon and Venus) make aspects to each other, but not to his racing. In order to tap into that creative, nurturing energy, he has to leave the racetrack. Though they "look" supportive, as Venus (wife) in Scorpio while Moon (Mother) and Mercury (sibling) sit in the houses next to his Sun (Self/Father), they don't really have any say, power, or influence in the axis of his racing planets.
16's Moon conj. Saturn also explained his expressiveness, and why people keep making memes (Jupiter-ruled 5H of playfulness) of his depressed face every time the cameras get to him. For a 12H sun, 16 is an incredibly public figure, which does come at a damaging price for his own mental health. It would be good for him to take media blackouts or just straight up don't tell anyone what he does until he's done it, because that dissolution (12H) of his self (Sun) does haunt him at night.
33's Libra-Aries axis sits in his 11H-5H. Both 11H and 5H are houses of community and personal expression- one is for networking, the larger group, how you bend yourself to society. It is the internet, and society outside of you.
It is incredibly fulfilling for him, racing. The entire ecosystem of it. Even the virtual form of it makes him happy, Sim Racing. His Virgo placements like checking off goals off a list, which is why he's good at rules lawyering. He gets community from the internet (11H) through his sim racing (5H = games), and thanks to the general Venusian quality of his 11H this is just a fun quirk for him instead of something debilitating.
However, the fallen aspect of his L11 is still in place. He was banned from Sim Racing before race weekends after it was found out that he lashed out and made a reckless divebomb in a race, as he was up playing Sim Racing until 3 a.m.
Lack of sleep in general is detrimental to his racing. So is being out in public. So is associating with any women (his mom and sister being exceptions, protected as such by his North Node****** and their ruler's exaltations- they can handle themselves); which is why any relationship or daughter of his has to be kept secret because his 11H (community) does not look kindly, nor do they understand or accept his relationships with women, as it is a side of himself that exists outside of what makes him the best racehorse in the racehorse competition.
Another thing to note- 16's Libra I Sun is separating from Saturn, going away from the malefic's harsh rays. 33's Libra III is applying to Saturn, getting nearer to it.
16 will physically get better after that wringer. 33 will work towards a brand new sense of self, which is going to be hard for him, because he doesn't have the same tools or support as 16 does to easily find himself outside of racing.
I wouldn't be surprised if they go their separate ways after 2026. 33 has been hinting at retirement for these past few races, while 16 has signed a multi-year contract with his company. Their Saturn return that year will lead them towards different places= 16 for work/health/daily routines, while 33 for play/children/romance.
Bonus: Scuderia Ferrari and Red Bull Racing
They are, quite literally, the poster boys for both teams at this point in time.
33 doesn't seem to care about moving to other companies despite the open air of talking about other contracts a while ago, perhaps because of some sense of loyalty to the Red Bull team, and there's no way in hell 16 will walk away from the loving embrace of Scuderia Ferrari unless he's ripped out of it by some force of nature.
Both have 12pm generated birth times because we're just here to check the general activity for these two.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Left) Generated birth chart for Ferrari the racing company. Enzo Ferrari founded Scuderia Ferrari on November 16, 1929 in Modena, Italy before moving it to Maranello in 1943. (Right) Charles is embraced by the Ferrari engineers after a race win. He, like most people working at Ferrari, identify as Tifosi.
The term Lecfosi, referring to 16's fanbase, is also extremely tied to Ferrari, as the company's Scorpio planets fall in his 1H. He is the embodiment of Ferrari's hopes and dreams, Tifosi to the marrow, he doesn't even have to do much for the fairytale and mythology of racing to wrap around him.
The Prince of Monaco, Ferrari's favorite son, the Sun of Maranello, he is incredibly wrapped up in the red of it all. Scorpio as a Mars-ruled sign is red, red, red- it's very tied to his public identity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Red Bull Racing has two charts, one for the December founding by F1 racing legend Jackie Stewart (Left), and another for Red Bull Energy drink's acquisition of the company (Right, the sale finalized November 19 2004) and subsequent rebranding to Red Bull Racing in 2005. (Center) Max is greeted by the Red Bull Racing team after his 12th consecutive race win during the 2023 Hungary GP.
Depending on which chart applies to the current iteration of the Red Bull company, the team is supporting him very differently.
RBR/Jackie Stewart's company has Mars activating his NN and 10H qualities, the peak of his image, and the Aries Moon providing an emotional charge to his Saturn, the racing planet. This would indicate the emotional ties to the brand itself, though not necessarily the people behind it.
The 2005 RBR which Vettel raced in has the Sun-Mars in his 12H of undoing and unconsciousness, with the benefics highlighting his Libra Sun. This iteration of the company treats him like he came out of a dream. They don't know exactly who they signed but they lucked out with him.
Conclusion:
Lestappen live parallel lives. If we were hoping for a big, earth-shattering, culture-defining rivalry the same way racers in the past did, we won't see it between them.
They are good friends. They will stay that way. They might go the way of Vettel and Raikonnen, but unless the both of them put down their personal ambitions and join a team together, they won't get that.
Charles likes fights, and thrills, and someone to go against- his chart is full of trines and sextiles- good, harmonious flowing aspects in his life. He might not have had the easiest go of it, considering his personal losses, but outside of it he defines himself by the challenges. He is a stinger-out, fight me fight me fight me I will end you type of person. His racetrack adopted son Oscar jokingly-not-jokingly mentioned about bringing NASCAR rules to the gentleman's motorsport, and that's his Charles trait, honestly.
Max is hungry. He has the racing bug. Of course he will be gung-ho for glory and for the sport. He's a purebred warhorse. But unlike Charles- who finds fighting as incidental instead of necessary, who can find symmetry and partnership and support columns all around him- he cannot find it in familiar environment, his close surroundings. He has to go outside of everything he has ever known to get that.
The phenomenon of Maxplaining and Leclerifying, of reaching out for each other during the moments post-race, looking back with fondness for their shared childhood memories... that is genuinely enjoyable for him. Daniel's bravery in switching teams and coming back and all around, their off-screen, off-camera friendship and banter, he likes that. Those connections die for him the moment other people get a glimpse of it. In order to sate that appetite for connection, he has to go to a place where he will be recognized and validated even when he doesn't shoot to kill. I think he's recognizing it, slowly. Only time will tell if he will be brave enough to put down his weapons and start the painfully boring and spiritually rewarding process of carving out a new life for himself.
(30) 3:12 p.m. the next day
*Charles specifically is incredibly prone to fairytale syndrome- Il Predestinato, the Prince of Monaco, Maranello's favorite Sun/Son. Mercury, ruler of his 11H (fanbase) in the 12H of mysticism (prone to narratives out of his control, but his 12H is ruled by Venus too, and has the Sun there as well), asteroid Champion there as well; and asteroid Nike (Victory) in his 3H of familiarity and storytelling. It is also the energy coming from his Scorpio II ASC being the decan associated with Six of Cups- someone giving something back to a child, offering a cup of water after they've cried out their grief in the Five of Cups.
**Britannica, T. Editors of Encyclopaedia (2024, August 3). automobile racing. Encyclopedia Britannica. https://www.britannica.com/sports/automobile-racing
***Oxley, Mat (2010), Stealing Speed: The Biggest Spy Scandal in Motorsport History, Haynes Publishing Group, ISBN1-84425-975-7
****Sagittarius is the non-Cardinal sign that is most commonly found in F1 racers' charts. Four of the current racers on the grid (These two + Oscar and Checo) have Sagittarius Mars.
*****Personally, I hate the fact that the asteroid Champion is exactly on top of Max's North Node, the appetite that will not be quenched in this lifetime. As if he needed any more reason to not exist outside of racing.

Break-ups and comebacks, jealousy and infidelity: Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale synastry analysis
Tumblr media
I was watching the livestream of No Doubt's Coachella set and reminiscing on the good ol times, thinking of the songs Gwen wrote about Gavin Rossdale and their on-and-off relationship and then the trainwreck marriage (spoiler alert: he cheated on her with their baby sitter) and of course, I had to look at their synastry. And let me tell you, it is something.
Let's look at Gavin's chart first and see what we're working with.
Tumblr media
His chart is of a successful person first and foremost. A Scorpio stellium and rising gives allure and clout - paired with a Sun in a trine with exalted Jupiter in the 9th, that combination will sooner or later bring a lot of accomplishments. A flowing aspect like this brings optimism and lucky events in the person's life and the planet of grandiose and expansion in the house of achievements just strenghtens that. His ascendant ruler, Mars gives him some traits of brattiness, being in the loud and fiery Sagittarius. Right next to it is Venus - both yin and yang planets coming together endowed him with a huge charisma. The downfall is, that conjunction is closely squared by Uranus and Pluto, which can give not only sudden changes of the heart but also excessive secrecy, push-and-pull dynamic in relationships and someone who generally may like to play the field, especially given the mutable traits of Sagittarius. It is even more pronounced because Venus rules his 7th house of relationships.
His 5th house of romance and sex suffers as well, having both malefic Saturn and wounded Chiron in it. The ruler is that Jupiter in Cancer but its retrograde notion can bring some hiccups along the way.
Capricorn Moon in detriment may also carry some trauma surrounding parental figures that has a potential to repeat family mistakes and what google just told me is that his parents were married three times. Talk about troubled relationships.
But Moon in itself signifies women in his life, as well as his partner. The luminary is trined by that Uranus-Pluto conjunction, which definitely speaks of him having many admirers. This gives him even more charm. This is definitely a chart of a rebellious heartbreaker.
Tumblr media
And then we have Gwen. Her chart is also very success-friendly with a Libra stellium in her 10th house of career and exalted Mars on the ascendant that blessed her with powerful personality that stands out. Capricorn ascendant brings slow rise to success but also hardships in life and its ruler, Saturn is retrograde in the 5th house (both of them have that placement in the 5th, which is interesting) - this makes her focused on creativity and her kids but the retrograde motion brought a lot of issues with her breaking through is her younger years. Mind you, No Doubt's real rise to fame happened during Gwen's Saturn return (and yes, that's where the album name "Return of Saturn" came from; also, side note, she learnt about it through Gavin himself).
Gwen has a lovely domicile Moon in her 7th house, which should bring prosperity in relationships - and we gotta admit all of her relationships were long-term. Unfortunately that Moon is tightly squared by Jupiter, which talks about possible naivety and legal issues - that can hint at things like divorces. Moon in a square with the Sun and Mars can also signify severing and distance from a male figure in your life, which can very much be a life partner. What isn't helpful is also fallen Venus in Virgo, which can bring a troubled love life.
Okay so let's get into the synastry
The first thing that comes forward is their Moons being opposite. Gavin's Moon is right on Gwen's ascendant, which probably made them gravitate to each other in the first place as Moon touching someone's ascendant can act like a glue. This also underlines his changeability towards her - the Moon comes and goes, it's moody. Of course, Moon oppositions can be lovely as they may compliment each other and probably at some points in their relationship it was like that. But these Moons don't have much of a support from other planets aside from her Moon trining his Saturn and Chiron, which can definitely act like a glue between two people and the need to build a life together. It's not really an affectionate aspect, but it's binding and full of care.
Now if you look at synastry, what you should pay attention to is recurring aspects. Because they have Moon oppositions and because Gwen has a natal Moon-Sun/Jupiter square, what that results in is that his Moon also squares her Sun-Jupiter conjunction. This just adds to the fuel and makes the negative aspect more potent as it's an aspect of a separation.
The other tight opposition we have here is his Sun with her Saturn. That is… not the best. And again, thse planets don't really receive any other strong flowing aspects. The Sun-Saturn opposition is extra tough because Saturn already has a distancing attitude towards everything. Put it against the Sun, that's two leadership-hungry planets having a constant fight. It also brings possible disappointments, resentment and cold treatment as well as suspiciousness on the side of the Saturn person.
I've mentioned Gwen having a square to Jupiter, which can bring legal issues. Here Gavin's Jupiter is tightly squaring Gwen's Mercury - this just reinforces that and also brings conflict between their worldviews, thinking patterns and day-to-day tasks. An aspect like this can make one of the pertners too permissive or full of neglect. Heated arguments or heavy debates can arise with it as well.
Aside from the mentioned Moon on the ascendant, a pretty cosy aspect, Mercury-Neptune can bring some dreaminess to the relationship as well. This is also a great thing to have as an artist as you can be each other's muses. On the flipside, whenever we search for deception, Neptune is where we point at. And conjunctions with a planet like this can go both ways. In this case, it's Gavin's Neptune that was pulling wool over her eyes.
And if we think of infidelity, we look at the 12th house because it rules all things hidden from us. In this case, they both have planets in each other's 12th houses. Gavin has his Venus and Mars in Gwen's 12th house - these two planets placed like this can definitely point to romance behind your back. And then her Libra stellium is in his 12th house, which can show neglect and not seeing her - especially her Sun, which, as a luminary, definitely wants to always be seen.
"The most gorgeously jealous kind of ex-girl"
I accidentally found a scan of an old article about the pair from 2002 where Gwen discusses how jealous she can get over Gavin. She justified it with the fact that he's a desirable frontman followed by a swarm of groupies. I mean, the assumption here might be reasonable but shouldn't be the case if your partner assures you of their loyalty by their actions and such. So, where do I sniff jealousy and the lack of trust?
First, we may go back to the 12th house overlays situation. Rossdale's Venus and Mars are both in her 12th house so she had a constant feeling of something happening behind her back and because of the nature of these planets, that something is related to other women and romance.
Gwen's Jupiter in a square to his Moon might bring a few things: being overly permissive ("somehow I'm full of forgiveness", as she sang in a No Doubt song), having issues just getting along sometimes, bad spending habits and, again, divorce and court disputes. And speaking of his Moon, it is not a tight conjunction but the luminary is very sensitive: Gwen's Mars touches it with a 7° orb. A Moon-Mars aspects in synastry, especially conjunctions can make Mars very protective but also very possessive over the Moon. Especially that her Mars makes natal squares to her planets, which makes it kinda competitive in nature. Gwen's Venus in a square to Gavin's Mars is a spicy, alluring aspect but it can definitely bring out some jealous feelings as well - more so from Mars' side but it can go both ways.
My favorite part: timing
The pair met for the first time in April of 1995 (might've been April 11th but I'm not sure) when transiting Jupiter was in the middle of Sagittarius. For Gavin it was directly touching his Venus and Mars, for Gwen - it was sextiling her natal Jupiter exact. Jupiter transits can definitely bring a new partner in a person's life, especially one that might be seen as a blessing or a lucky coincidence. They also usually point to long-term partnerships. Interestingly, the ascendant in their Davidson chart is right around the middle degrees of Sagittarius as well.
Spiler alert: Jupiter themes will show up again.
They married on September 14th 2002 with Moon conjunct Chiron in the sign of Capricorn as well as a tight Jupiter-Neptune opposition. The big benefic was transiting through the sign of Leo, making a trine to the Jupiter in Sagittarius that took place when they met and started dating: this means both of them received positive Jupiter transits around the wedding day but it also gives us a clue that Jupiter cycles play a huge role in their relationship (aka they had their relationship milestones when the planet was going through fire signs).
The couple fired for divorce in August of 2015. Now, if you've been paying attention and you know math, you'd know that this is not only a full Jupiter cycle gone but also… *drum roll* Venus retrograde period in Leo!
Their wedding lasted a whole Jupiter cycle, which is pretty common given Jupiter rules legal matters. And their Davidson chart? Has Jupiter in Leo. It was of course also marked by the Venus retrograde. To be more impactful, Stefani was going through a Venus-ruled profection year.
Transit-wise, Gavin was just at the tail end of Saturn transiting his 1st house, while for Gwen, it was a Saturn opposition.
During the divorce, as Jupiter was moving over Gwen's Venus, she started getting closer to Blake Sheldon and the couple began dating in November of the same year. They're now married.

Note
I was late to the poll but I also like Hongjoong and Soyeon (tho my ult is Hongjoong and I don't stan Gidle but like their music and her too!) so when I saw you on the past mention the two I hoped you could talk more about bc always seen it as well and now got excited seeing you will do a comparison chart! :D
yES :) :) niche interests UNITE!!!!
like a) i'm interested in commonalities between leaders in general and b) soyeon and hongjoong have ALWAYS reminded me of each other in some ways--like they are both capricorn risings, neptune and uranus in 1st, chart ruler saturn in the 3rd, scorpio MC--physically they look similar (tiny with a BIG presence, shape shifters, performance geniuses) and their personalties have that same funny like... people think they're intense and scary unless they know what a little weirdo cutie they are. but also they truly can be intense and scary! then be a loser three minutes later. they can be geniuses and they can be dummies. duality !!
i also find it such a great way to go really deep into a placement and tease out the subtle differences and how that can manifest?
like they are both ruled by retrograde saturn in the 3rd (work communication and bucking the norm = key themes) but
hongjoong is ruled by 29° aries saturn -- he is gonna be tested much more on issues of authority, judgment, work than soyeon is. he also has more of a natural talent for leadership but also a hot and cold potential to be a tyrant lol (temper). his saturn is in the jupiter decan, so education philosophy idealism Open Mindedness are all important too soyeon is ruled by 3° taurus saturn-- more of a workhorse, methodical and like... she's not gonna get mad as easily she's like "lol ok let's see who blinks first bc it's not gonna be me honey" (stubborn as hell) and it's in the venus decan so #aesthetic also she is about that creative control + control freak vibes rather than her needing to be in charge for its own sake
so for example
-> if soyeon hates something she's written (superlady lol) she's gonna accept the L (loudly, 3rd house) and move on, but -> hongjoong might be internally irritated but also refuse to admit he was wrong (aries energy 🤪) and maybe just talk his way around something like that (3rd house)
hongjoong's saturn is ruled by his 8th house virgo mars
his chart ruler energy is more... uh... depression potential? 8th house and virgo both um... can be a little negative or depressive at times. however also precise, rational, reliable, service-oriented, transformative, deep, committed, i'm a survivor i'm not gonna give in i'm not gonna stop, i'm gonna work harder, u know the tune. hongjoong's saturn is motivated not only by his own desire to assert himself but also his care for others or his want to like... be of service? very tsundere, you aries saturn you. plus there's an 8th house sex and death vibe to hongjoong's saturn which feels... truly so right. like who else is gonna lead a sexy cyberpunk anarchist revolutionary performance demon power of friendship concept other than a uranus-neptune-capricorn rising ruled by 3rd house aries saturn rx ruled by 8th house virgo mars. like. all the key words are there down to the aquarius uranus cyberpunk energy, like. also jupiter decan... more successful overseas, gets lucky overseas???? idk??
soyeon's saturn is ruled by her exact leo venus-mercury conjunction in the 7th house
her chart ruler energy NEEDS to create and perform like almost pathologically, has an ego but also there's an impulse to compromise or make nice that super disagrees with other parts of her chart. however her saturn is also generous, creative, fair, artistic, team-orientated. mercury adds to the 3rd house gemini energy--youthful, playful, loves to learn, switches lanes like crazy. it makes sense that idle's concepts bounce around very a lot, and that soyeon does all the creative direction herself down to hair and makeup, and that she usually starts with a very clear message to communicate when designing a comeback (even if sometimes the message is super specific and profound and sometimes the message is "idk fuck it we ball"--like tbh if i had been responsible for quite literally pretty much everything for my group since debut while constantly having to fight the public and even the company despite having kept the lights on pretty much single-handedly for the past ??? years, i too would want to fuck it and ball after a while)
(hongjoong also has a prominent venus but his is conjunct his mc--very visible, very key to what he offers the world, what he wants the world to perceive him like--soyeon's venus is much more about creative vision communication and work and hongjoong's venus is more expression and expansion and growth)
ANYWAY. oops that was long and i even have a long draft for this already. well i love to have fun, so. stay tuned lmao.

giving reijean complete birth charts
i make fun of yams for making frankly the majority of the 104th and the warrior unit aries and leo suns, including Jean and Reiner (would just say "fire signs," but he doesn't seem to gravitate toward sagittarius birthdays). but just because this cast is lousy with the same sun sign doesn't mean they're identical to their comrades! the differences (and friction of similarity) come from everyone's rising sign, which contextualizes the sun for the individual.
table of contents
methodology
their charts without birth times
the charts
🪐 methodology
this project requires three bold executive decisions: (1) birth times, (2) birth years as proxy for 832-35, and (3) birth location as proxy for liberio and paradis.
birth times, to give us their rising signs. this makes up the majority of this post. besides the above reason, sun + ascendant also tells us if the person was born in the day or night since the ascendant is the sign on the eastern horizon at time of birth. someone born at/around sunrise has the same sun and rising sign, for example.
851 in AoT = 1853 in our world. what about every other planet? astrology is not like MBTI; we don't plug in values willy nilly (my killjoy pet peeve? ppl hc'ing moon signs that are physically, astronomically impossible; moon phases and thus moon signs describe sun-moon aspects). i have to pick a real-world ephemeris range in order to limit my freedom of choice to just rising signs. to advance my own indulgent new historicist reading, i'm looking at ephemerides from the 1830s to fill in the rest of these charts, matching the survey corps repo'ing the marleyan scouting ship to the arrival of the perry expedition in the ryukyu islands.
kinda crazy decision here, but liberio = macau, the walls = osaka. the world of AoT is ours upside-down, sure, but the opposite latitude of madagascar is like, saudi arabia, which i don't think this matches because of climate, and iseyama pretty clearly conceives of paradis with more than two northern hemisphere seasons (the leaves on the tree on the hill). these city choices betray my own research interests, but the antagonism between paradis and marley across a narrow sea feels more like japan vs like all of east asia (including russia) throughout history, but especially the late 19th and early 20th centuries. physically, paradis' northeastern position next to marley (longitude) matters a lot. it's why the birth charts of ppl from northern europe are so weird if you use quadrant house systems.
right away, the 1830s give us the outer/generational planets, where Reiner's 2-3 years seniority does make difference for uranus, the fastest-moving outer: they share pluto in aries and neptune in capricorn, but Reiner's uranus is in aquarius and Jean's is in pisces. i don't rly use these unless they make close contact w inner planets though
specific to reijean / what is fanon at this point
Jean's birth year is pretty unambiguous to me with him and Eren as foils: 835, or 1837.
i assume the cadet corps disbands and assembles each spring. winter happens between the reclamation of wall maria and the SC reaching the sea, which puts the events of seasons 1-2 and s3p1 around april or may, and the return to shiganshina arc in august or september. meaning, Jean and Eren just turned 15.
if Reiner is 17 when the 104th disbanded, he's actually two years and four months older than Jean and Eren; for most of the year (august through march), he seems three years older!! that means he spends his 18th birthday w fellow bday boy Zeke, plus Pieck on aug. 4 :) granted they probably spent that time planning to kill the whole SC, but i like to think Bertie threw them a party :)
Tumblr media
birth time / rising sign considerations
do they have a day or night vibe? deadass. briefly, each light "leads" a sect of planets that are strengthened if their leader is in charge. sun = jupiter and saturn and moon = venus and mars; mercury has no allegiance, can go either way (because of mythology; mercury/hermes has to traverse every realm as a messenger). this mitigates "bad" placements or sabotages "good" ones.
also vibe-based: each of the seven classical planets (inner sailor senshi + saturn) traditionally rules two signs, while the moon rules cancer and the sun rules leo. this is often used phrenologically (for racism), but seeing as these men are lines and iseyama speaks about designing them, i think it is okay.
where is person A's sun in person B's chart? and vice versa, and same applies for rising signs and their rulers. for relationships, astrologers sometimes use this to indicate where/how/when partners meet each other.
✨ without birth times
reiner (1834/08/01)
Tumblr media
first glance
from midnight to midnight, the moon is always in gemini; last quarter moon (waning).
both benefics (nice planets that "bring good fortune") are undignified, or in signs that do not serve them; the signs are enemy territory. could you say that's a grand metaphor for RBA on paradis, or liberio on marley? perhaps. for Reiner, jupiter is in gemini (detrimented, and conjoined with mars) and venus is in virgo (fallen). both of these are mercury-ruled signs; aka that flighty little bitch of a planet with questionable loyalties. hmmmmm!!!
but saturn is pretty happy (exalted) in libra.
rising sign impulses
right away, he's one of the most diurnal 🌞 men i've ever seen. yams said in some guidebook that he drew him to look like someone "destined for great things," or something to that effect... and probably like, mere months later, he published chapter 97. so yams is a sicko who loves irony. Reiner is a golden, heroic figure until he isn't, like fuckin HELOS i guess, or apollo...
day birth limits our range to leo through capricorn, with some wiggle room in the first few degrees of aquarius; his chart ruler can be literally any option but the moon
because of his unfortunate benefics and the burden of identity, my favorites are: taurus, libra, sag, or leo rising, so he's ruled by either venus, jupiter, or the sun.
houses that feel reiner
6th house: physical labor, the body in service to someone else's interests
8th house: death, enemies (lol), inheritance (i mean come On); wealth gained through other's deaths—take it as eating the previous Armored, or his survivor's guilt re: Marcel and Bertie...
9th house: long-distance travel, leaving home, higher education
12th house: my favorite house, i am biased, but it's a house of like, sickness, loss, isolation, "self-undoing"; shit Jean has no tolerance for. suicidal blockhead behavior.
jean (1837/04/07)
Tumblr media
first glance
the moon is always in taurus; crescent moon (waxing).
he has an aries stellium (a cluster of planets all in the same sign), which Eren doesn't—he's actually more aries than Eren, who is "secretly" very piscean. Jean's sun (exalted), mercury, venus (detriment), and pluto are all here.
for Jean, the sun is conjoined pluto within 2 degrees (makes us twinsies; i have a sun-pluto square).
he has a fixed sign t-square: taurus moon, leo mars, and aquarius neptune.
impulses
he could go either way, day or night, but my dumb ass wants them to complement each other for no damn reason
for a night chart , he can be anywhere from scorpio to aries; his ascendant ruler can be mars, jupiter, or saturn.
yams said he drew him to "look" deceitful; in the anime subs armin says Jean and eren both have "villainous" eyes, which makes me favor cap or aquarius rising.
houses that feel jean
2nd house: creature comforts, valuing security
4th house: home, both his dream of having a home in the interior and the formative significance of seeing trost attacked
6th and 8th houses for similar reasons to Reiner. re: 8th house, i think about Connie's "who'da thunk we'd be the new Levi Squad!" thnx Annie!!
11th house: humanitarianism?? like, a good sense of the big picture, very much values life
💕 synastry without birth times so far
Jean's venus is opposite Reiner's saturn: rich and dramatic, arguably negative, but i think it can be good for them because of their different conditions in each chart. Jean's venus hates being in aries, and looks across the way to libra, where it wants to be, where Reiner's saturn is. it's like Reiner can pull out Jean's ooey gooey feelings that are usually obscured by aries, or come out as just carnal aggression. saturn can be patient with all of that, and i think Reiner finds it cute. venus in aries is very fwb/didn't-know-we-were-dating; saturn in libra is more quiet and reliable, to a point—he will get so frustrated!
they both have jupiter-mars conjunctions that are sextile to one another; they're hot separately and together???? i seriously led with japanese history for picking their fake birth years, i didn't know the sky would say they are hot and have great sex. more than that, a sextile is actually... pretty chill and comfortable? they just click, it's more about being in sync, physically (mars) and philosophically (jupiter).
Jean's jupiter-mars conjunction is conjunct Reiner's sun: more cute shit, they just get each other, also Jean's mars just finds leos hot af, so you can apply to this to Jean + all the warrior leos... actually jupiter and mars are quite slow so like, most of the 104th has this, which may be why they trust Reiner so much
the charts!
i'll only talk about their rising signs and the planets that rule them because otherwise we're here all day:
💛 reiner: ~10:00 ☉, 832/08/01 in liberio, marley
Tumblr media
Libra rising ⚖️, Leo sun 🦁, Gemini moon 👯
chart ruler is: Venus ♀ in Virgo/12th house
i like Venus because it feels softer and smaller than jupiter 🥺 e.g., between the two benefics, Venus is a "personal" planet and Jupiter is "social." Jupiter has to be too many things; everyone expects everything from it, the warrior candidates and younger members of the 104th look up to Reiner, he's "Marley's shield," karina burdens him with "uniting their family" (her marleyan citizenship); but he actually isn't all that and isn't suited to it... and I think only people who really really know him, e.g. have strong bullshit meters, know that. imo gabi is getting there early on, since she tells him she can tell he's lying about something, and she and jean are both later decan aries suns...!
i clearly like giving Reiner cottagecore dreams, a small and warm life; as a boy he wanted a nuclear family, and even in the dregs of his mental health, he clung on for the warrior kids. his actual ambitions are just caring and maybe, even more ambitiously, being cared for, and I think that is true to him, not just his Marcel persona.
the 12th house is miserable!! love it there. my more nuanced explanation is it's kind of floating above it all, seeing the relativity of everything, which can feel like disillusionment or liberation or both: Paradis seriously upset his understanding of the world.
Venus doesn't like Virgo/Virgo doesn't care for Venus because there is something quite detached, sterile about Virgo. Virgo is, for Reiner, years of propaganda, habit, "warrior" versus "soldier," all watchwords and reminders at catastrophic odds with his feelings of warmth and acceptance in the 104th—those syrupy, hard-to-name Venus matters that Virgo cannot tolerate.
in Reiner's chart, Taurus, Venus' other domain, is his 8th house: another "dark" house, death and inheritance, guilt, enemies. it also.... is where Jean's moon is.
his Venus squares his Moon, which is a pretty double edged sword. there's something very needy and insecure about these two soft planets making a harsh angle, which, imo, leads Reiner to deeply unhealthy choices to win affection, approval, security—from his parents, from the nation of Marley, from Bertolt and Annie after Marcel's death, etc.
🪐 jean: ~02:00 ☽, 835/04/07 in trost, paradis
Tumblr media
Capricorn rising 🐐, Aries sun 🐏, Taurus moon 🐂; this zodiac doesn't have any horses but his big three is all hoofed
chart ruler: Saturn ♄ in Scorpio/11th house
this seems very leader-ly to me; the 11th house is about community, the good of the whole, a humanitarian concern. also very Levi, imo.
Saturn is the diurnal malefic, so its good qualities are delayed or dampened by being in a night chart; Trost activates him.
Jean's growth from a "selfish bastard who only thinks of himself" is, astrologically, a broadening of what community/11th house matters mean to him. first, it is just himself: getting into the MPs at all costs, Saturn confused in a night chart. but then in trost, in the field, he leads for the first time: being selfish for the sake of people who trust him, using the deaths of others for his and his squad's survival. we see this again in the 57th expedition: he clearly sees his, Reiner, and Armin's role as giving up their own lives for the success of the Survey Corps. and his scope of concern gets bigger and bigger: the future of "humanity" in the walls in the uprising arc, and finally all of humanity.
also in the uprising arc, especially in the manga, I see his hesitation to kill as an 11th house morality, sure, part of humanity's charter, but I also deeply DEEPLY love the slow burn trust between Levi and his new squad: Jean kind of deputizes himself between springles and scary Levi himself. this also reminds me of Jean yapping at Armin about mutinying Erwin during the 57th expedition. it's pragmatism man!!! the will and trust of the collective is a better vote of confidence than chain of command
Saturn and Scorpio are pretty neutral to each other, but Scorpio itself is a wonderfully intense, more mature version of Mars; sorry, but it's manga Rei Hino versus 90s anime Rei Hino, with strong environmental and personal intuition. I've been a Jearmin shipper sometimes, and this is where those two boys are simpatico, imo.
Saturn opposes Jean's Aries stellium, but more exactly his Sun-Pluto conjunction. I'll just quote the astrologer Sue Tompkins here: "The Sun-Saturn type is usually a serious person, tending to take themselves very seriously and to take all that happens around them rather personally." bb
the other Saturn-ruled house in Jean's chart is Aquarius/2nd: that's that fine whiskey in the interior, baby
💞 synastry with birth times
Saturn conjoins Reiner's ascendant: even though he's ruled by a pretty miserable Venus, his 1st house is somewhat lifted by Saturn, a morning star/the daytime malefic made nicer by the sun; e.g., he sees Jean's positive Saturninan qualities before anyone else.
Reiner's moon and Jupiter-Mars conjunction are in his 9th house: the happiest parts of his life happen abroad. also, jupiter rules sag and pisces, respectively his 3rd (siblings, everyday routines) and 6th houses (embodiment, physical work and health): "playing soldier," as annie says, or playing marcel, in porco's judgment.
Jean's Jupiter-Mars conjunction is in his 8th house: enemies to lovers hell yah! see my earlier note about Jean and Leos generally (JeanPikku).
Aries (where most of Jean's chart happens) is Reiner's 7th house, aka the spouse house. Again, Jean's April DOB sets him apart from every other damn Aries in this world/their age group, meaning Annie and Eren. the other mars sign is scorpio, reiner's 2nd house; i try to say it my fic Husbandry, but RBA have their material needs met, see Paradis as a real paradise compared to Liberio'a urban lack.
Capricorn (Jean's 1H) is Reiner's 4H: home.
Jean's 7H is Cancer, ruled by the moon; his moon in Taurus trines that sexy Jupiter-Mars conjunction, e.g. looks directly into Leo.
a jeankasa note
Aquarius and Leo are opposite each other, so a lot of Jean's angles to Reiner's Leo-ness are mirrored/also apply to his feelings toward Mikasa; he really has a type, and it's fixed Suns (...armin?? porco??), the opposition that makes his t-square. but the funnier thing is Mikasa and Reiner are kind of natural enemies, mostly bc of mercury oppositions, which would probably be true with any arbitrary birth years bc mercury is rarely far from the sun. just cannot picture those two having a conversation one on one ever, their only significant interaction is mikasa throwing him onto eren
why tf did i do this
i think for my 57th expedition AU they're gonna bicker about using constellations for navigation. that's it
this was long as fuck mostly bc i felt i had to explain interpretation methods but i am happy to do more characters!! if i do anyone next it's probably them jaeger boys, zeke is sag or pisces rising to me (derogatory/affectionate)

YOUR 2024 Virgo New Moon Horoscope
Summer is almost over (boo!) but we have one last go at a new summer beginning: On Sept. 2, at 9:56 p.m. EST, we have our last new moon of summer, and this one takes place in orderly, organized earth sign Virgo.
Tumblr media
If you haven’t heard through the astrology grapevine (i.e.: read this article about new and full moons), new moons are opportune days for initiating new projects, calling in new opportunities and hitting the refresh button. Each new moon carries with it a set of themes, and the themes of the 2024 Virgo new moon center on order, efficiency and clarity of purpose. All of which might be somewhat of a challenge around Sept. 2. Why? Well…
Jupiter in Gemini is (loosely) squaring this new moon, while Saturn Rx in Pisces (loosely) opposes it. Which basically means this new moon is as tense, as it is opportunity-laden and critical-yet-constructive. In other words: it’s a mixed bag; it can go one of two, three, or four ways. (We should expect no less from this new moon, especially since its top transits involve three double-bodied signs like Virgo, Gemini, and Pisces.)
This new moon’s ruler, Mercury (which, coincidentally, also rules both Mars & Jupiter in Gemini) is currently moving away from a hella confusing, dramatic, and existential crisis-causing retrograde. So, things are straightening out. Moving forward. Kind of.
Mercury is still in its post-retrograde shadow, which is akin to car sputtering back to life and trying to drive as if it didn’t just almost blow up at the last three stop lights. (Or maybe that’s just my car?) Then, Mars in Gemini is moving towards a tense, confusing square to Neptune Retrograde in Pisces. Yes, Mars gives you the mental energy you need to think about what you want to achieve, but its head butt with Neptune Rx could make you feel like you’ve dropped acid. And not in a good way—more like a WTF-is-going-on-and-where-am-I-going? kind of way. But sometimes confusion can be helpful, right?
How can you draw in some order in life to make your day-to-day grind more efficient and productive? How can you clarify your goals so that they align with your higher purpose? What have you been trying to grow this year? How can you be more disciplined about showing up for it? These are some of the questions to consider for the 2024 Virgo new moon. (Psst. Check out this post on intention-setting for an in-depth look at the new moon in each of the houses.)

hey so... [one piece spoilers for Elders and Weapons]
....One Piece started in 1997, when Pluto was a considered a planet.
The Five Elders are "Gorōsei" in Japanese, which leads the exact trnaslation to be Five Elder Stars, but this can also be read as Five Elder Planets, which leads into their names.
Tumblr media
Saturn, Mars, Warcury, Shepherd Ju Peter (Jupiter) and... and Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro (V... nasu. Venus. Shoutout to the wiki trivia section)
So that's 5 out of nine planets. I'm thinking about this because I heard a theory on one of those videos that there was originally just one Ancient Weapon and Oda added three more because he was told he could keep the series going as long as he could keep it going after Alabasta. And that sounded kind of wrong to me but I couldn't place it until someone mentioned Pluton and the Gorōsei in one sentence together. We have five Gorōsei and three named weapons, at least one of which is a living person.
Mercury - Warcury Venus - V Nasjuro Mars - Marcus Mars Saturn - Jaygarcia Saturn Jupiter - Shepherd Ju Peter Uranus - Weapon Uranus Neptune - Weapon Poseidon Pluto - Weapon Pluton Which if they're all planets leaves room left for the fourth, unnamed weapon. I think that's about what can be definitively said. So what I'm saying next is speculation I guess. All Ancient Weapons are people ("Poseidon is a warship!" CLEARLY ships can be people) and the weapons were the rulers of their respective kingdoms. One Piece spends a lot of time discussing Might Making Right and the responsibility of leaders to protect their underlings, so the ruler being the country's most powerful weapon isn't so strange. In the Void Century, five of the nine rulers were influenced by Something to overthrow the other four and created the modern world government and celestial dragons. Earth is not necessarily considered a celestial body, which would usually leave us one weapon short. But Gorōsei doesn't mean 'planet' specifically. It means 'star.' The final ruler is Joyboy, The Sun.

should I write about sigils and kameas and magic squares?
because I've been slightly obssessed with the topic lately, and frankly it's fascinating. or maybe I'm a huge nerd that thinks fun with math is a good time. esoteric math!
...fuck it. I'm gonna do it.
so a magic square is a fun thing that happens in math where you have a table with an equal number of rows and columns, and in that table each row, column, and corner to corner diagonal, adds up to the same sum. that sum is called the 'magic constant'. the number of rows/columns is the Order of the square.
some squares are extra fancy, and may have other subsets that add to the same sum; say a four by four square in which every subset of four squares adds to the same sum. (check out the Chautisa Yantra, it's great.)
our ancestors looked at this sort of fun with math and thought something like "this is so neat, it must be meaningful." or maybe that it's such an interesting pattern it must be derived from a higher power. and thus, magic.
each magic square has a minimum value for its magic constant, and if you try to build a square with a lower constant, you have to use fractions instead of whole numbers, or even negative numbers.
when folks get started messing with making talismans, for some reason, they start with the Saturn square. I get it, it's easy. the Saturn square has three rows and three colums, uses all numbers 1 through 9, and has a constant value of 15. it's cute, and simple, and graphing out your sigil on it is easy.
Tumblr media
see? that's the Saturn Square. Order 3, Constant 15 (and if you add up all the digits, it adds up to 45).
but that's just getting started!
by the time of the writing of the Picatrix, and Agrippa's Three Books of Occult Philosophy (1500's) magic squares up to Order 9 were known, and had been assigned to planetary and luminary bodies. (luminaries are the sun and moon.)
because the modern planets cannot be seen without a telescope, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto (a planet in my heart!) don't have magic squares assigned to them.
with the rise of machine computing, we have found higher order magic squares, including up to Order 260 or more. which is good, because the idea of doing that much math makes me kinda want to whimper.
Tumblr media
Jupiter, Order 4, constant 34
Tumblr media
Mars, Order 5, Constant 65
Tumblr media
Sun, Order 6, Constant 111
Tumblr media
Venus, Order 7, Constant 175
Tumblr media
Mercury, Order 8, Constant 260
Tumblr media
Moon, Order 9, Constant 369
while most instructions for making a sigil will tell you to assign a number value to your letters, add 'em up, and keep adding until you get a single digit, that's really only super useful for the Saturn square, where none of the digits in it are higher than 9.
if you're using a different square, you don't have to reduce your numbers to single digits, though you do need to be aware of what the upper limit for the value of individual points in your square are. how do you figure that out? take your Order and square it.
an Order 4 square has an upper value of 16. an Order 7 square tops out at 49. and so on!
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
I'm currently experimenting to attempt to figure out what higher order squares should be associated with Uranus and Neptune (Pluto's not a priority right at this moment for me, I figure it'll be obvious once I assign those first two.)
you've doubtless noticed that all the squares from 3 to 9 have been assigned to something, without skipping one and leaving it unassigned! logically, this means Order 10, 11, and 12 squares can be assigned to Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. the problem is: those lower order squares aren't assigned to the planets in order. so we can't just say "oh, Order 10 goes with Uranus, cause it's next in line".
want to join me in experimentation? here's an Order 10 square, constant 505:
Tumblr media
might be Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto. dunno!
it's clearly time to FA and FO.
(yes, I've spent the last week pickling my brains with magic squares. you're welcome.)

Energy Update: August 2023
Tumblr media
August is a “6” Universal Month [8 (August) + 7 (2023) = 15 = 1+5 = 6] in a “7” Universal Year. Generally, six energy is focused on the home and creature comforts. Major conflicts of five have passed, and six energy is focused on getting creative and moving from a space of conflict to a space of comfort and agreement. This is somewhat in alignment with the astrological energy of the month (we are coming out of some rough astrological weather) but it’s wise to remember that we are not out of the weeds yet.
The Set Up
We begin the month with the Sun and retrograde Venus in Leo, Mercury and Mars in Virgo, Jupiter and Uranus in Taurus, retrograde Saturn and retrograde Neptune in Pisces, and retrograde Pluto in Capricorn. The nodes of the moon have just eeked their way backward into Aries and Libra which was a major change of the guards. We are all a little bit off balance and in need of some adjustment and stabilization. By month’s end, the Sun will have moved into Virgo and Mars will have moved into Libra. That’s it. That’s a very small amount of planetary movement as normally Mercury and Venus keep close time with the Sun. But Venus is already in her retrograde cycle (which won’t end until early September) and Mercury will retrograde before the end of the month. We are deep into retrograde season now – by month’s end we will have eight planets in retrograde and Jupiter isn’t far behind. If it feels like very little in your life is moving forward, know that you are right on time.
The Nitty Gritty
The month begins strong with a full moon in Aquarius and a sweet earth trine between Mars in Virgo and Jupiter in Taurus. Any positive connection between Mars and Jupiter is a time to work for it – to dream big and take the very real and necessary steps to bring your dreams into reality. In the earth signs, this is an especially strong time to do work around material gain – whether it be a fatter paycheck or the acquisition of property. Mars in Virgo understands the need to put one foot in front of the other and Jupiter in Taurus knows the value of quality. All of this combined with the full moon and the energy of the first of the month makes it a great day to set intentions towards building a business and other types of long-term investments into your future. The Aquarius moon is a great innovator, too, so make sure that you are thinking outside the box and including all possibilities.
Things are coming to a completion and you need to accept that. Pluto, our planet of death and transformation, has been moving backward into the tail end of Capricorn (another sign of wealth and the completion of our Earth triumvirate) where it has resided for the last fifteen years. Pluto entered Aquarius for the first time earlier this year which was another big Gong Crash – similar to the switch of the lunar nodes in July. Now, Pluto in Capricorn meets up with the lunar nodes in a cardinal t-square. Something has got to give, an old coat needs to be shed. This is happening collectively as we throw off the shackles of Pluto in Capricorn for the innovative nature of Aquarius but also within our own lives. These past three years have been a lot – we are not who we were before 2020. It is time to adapt and step into the new.
Sort of anyway. It’s more like baby steps. This is inevitably one of those times when you will start to see the division between those who have been doing the work (as this has been a major letting go cycle) and those that are a bit more mired in their own lives. Whatever side of this you are on, try to practice some kindness towards yourself. These major planetary retrogrades are yet another chance to step up and make the changes that you need to move forward.
As we enter the first weekend of August, this may be coming to the forefront. Mercury, our fast-paced messenger, enters its pre-retrograde shadow at 08° Virgo. I will be writing a post about Mercury’s retrograde so I will only touch on it briefly here, but as always there are a few highlights. Mercury will retrograde backward from 21° Virgo to 08° Virgo which means that if you have a personal planet between 08-21°, you will be directly affected by this retrograde. Additionally, it is worth noting that Mercury’s retrograde through Virgo will happen during Virgo season and will coincide with the latter part of Venus’s retrograde through Leo. We need to feel something first (Venus) and then we will need to think it through (Mercury).
The Sun in Leo will square off with Jupiter in Taurus on Sunday 8/6 – this is a day to do less and especially to pay attention to overspending or overdoing it. Both Taurus and Leo are signs that tend towards extravagances in differing ways and Leo is very bogged down by Venus’s retrograde during this time. Say less. Do less. Spend less. Stay the fuck home and thank me later.
There are a lot of undercurrents in the air and a lot of it may just seem like it is up to chance at this time. On Wednesday 8/9, retrograde Venus meets up in a square with Uranus in Taurus for the second time – this time relationships are on the chopping block. All of this Venus’ retrograde can be considered to be break-up weather and Uranus adds an air of unexpectedness to the whole affair. Yes, affairs. Beware of who you are trusting right now, all that glitters is definitely not gold. People will be in their egos, too, so fights will be explosive and unproductive. Our Sun’s trine with Chiron in Aries (exact on Saturday) shows us that all of this hurts. Chiron is always a sign to dig into the pain and to seek the lesson behind the hurt.
Egos abound even stronger on Sunday 8/13 as retrograde Venus meets up with our Sun. This is business as usual, Venus meets up with the Sun twice in every cycle – once during her retrograde and once afterward. Here she enters her “Morning Star” phase – in about a week, she will begin to appear next to the rising sun at dawn. In any case, when our hearts are filled with ego – it is hard to see clearly. Tread with caution here. Indeed, with the Sun and Venus so close together – they both form a trine to Chiron in Aries in quick succession. Altogether this may make for a very painful weekend in which we are reminded of old wounds of the heart.
On Tuesday 9/15, our Sun meets up in a fixed square with Uranus in Taurus – this is also a day to lie low and avoid fireworks of all kinds and heavy machinery if you can. Expect the unexpected. Uranus’s influence can be compared to that of the Tower card in the tarot – it can topple everything with little to no warning. With feeling raw already, this is definitely a time to avoid domestic troubles if at all possible.
And just like that we are at the new moon in Leo which will peak in the early morning hours of Wednesday 8/16 (EST) at 23°. This will likely deepen the energy of the weekend leading up as it falls within the dark of the moon. Pack your patience and your very best methods of self-care during this time. Retrograde Venus will still be closely aligned with our solar and lunar bodies and not holding any punches. This would be a great day to do some baneful (but well-deserved) magic if you dare. Any work with dark deities would also be enhanced by this deep energy.
The rest of the week holds on aspects except those made with the moon which shows that we may need to sit with things for a while.
By the following Monday, 8/21, our Sun will meet up in a trine with our North Node in Aries and a sextile with our South Node in Libra. This is the eclipse zone and one of our first real hits to the “new” doors of fate that Aries and Libra will be opening and closing for us during the upcoming eclipses later this year. It is always wise to keep your eyes wide open when the lunar nodes have been activated – you may get a glimpse into where you should be going, or (sometimes more importantly) where you don’t belong.
Retrograde Venus squares off with Jupiter in Taurus the next day which is another day to lie low and spend less. This is the second pass through this transit during Venus’s retrograde – we may be forced to come face to face with some of our overindulgence during this time. It is wise to remember during aspects like this that astrology is happening for you, not to you. Being called out on your shadow behaviors can feel really harsh but most things get managed better when they are brought into the light.
All eyes are on Virgo on Wednesday 8/23 as the Sun enters the sign of the virgin and Mercury retrogrades at 21° Virgo in the early afternoon (EST). It’s worth noting here that Wednesday is also Mercury’s day and that Mercury is the ruler of the sign Virgo. Mercury retrogrades are rarely as scary as the pulp astrology pages like to claim but they do require adjustments. Mercury rules communication, technology, and travel so we can assume that all three of these domains will be affected but their retrograde cycle. It’s not that you can’t do these things but rather that the results of your actions will be a bit more roundabout than normal. Mercury retrogrades are an important time to pack your patience and be prepared to have to rethink, rework, and reevaluate.
On 8/24, Mars in Virgo meets up in a trine with retrograde Pluto in Capricorn and we may finally get the chance to act on the changes that we have known since day 1 of the month that we needed to make. But, with our other two personal planets in retrograde, the chances won’t come easily. Dig in. Do the hard work.
On 8/27, the Sun in Virgo meets up in opposition with retrograde Saturn in Pisces which will just likely feel hard. Saturn was not particularly comfortable in the ephemeral mutable sign of Pisces to begin with and is further stymied by its retrograde. Virgo wants to put all of the pieces together into a neat whole but there is definitely something missing. Again, patience is called for here.
Additionally, Mars enters Libra, the sign of its exile. Mars needs to move independently but Libra is almost chronically codependant. This won’t play well with our egoic Venus retrograde in Leo and Mercury retrograde is out-to-lunch so talking about it is off the table here, too. Try to avoid important relationship issues at least until Venus has exited her retrograde as they are very unlikely to go well at this time.
Uranus retrogrades at 23° Taurus on 8/28. Outer planet retrogrades are not normally felt on an individual level but they do tend to add a feeling of time ceasing to exist for a few days on either time of their station.
Finally, on 8/30, we have our second full moon of the month at 07° Pisces. We are astrological savvy folks here so we know that this isn’t a true “blue moon” (which requires two moons to be situated IN THE SAME SIGN) but it still packs a double full moon punch for the month and an extra chance to let that shit go. The gods know that we need it.
The Details
8/1 – Full moon 09° Aquarius, Mercury in Virgo opposed Saturn in Pisces, Mars in Virgo trine Jupiter in Taurus 8/3 – Pluto in Capricorn square North Node in Aries/South Node in Libra (cardinal t-square) 8/4 – Mercury enters its pre-retrograde shadow at 08° Virgo 8/6 – Sun in Leo square Jupiter in Taurus 8/9 – Mercury in Virgo trine Jupiter in Taurus, retrograde Venus in Leo square Uranus in Taurus 8/12 – Sun in Leo trine Chiron in Aries 8/13 – Sun conjunct retrograde Venus 20° Leo 8/14 – retrograde Venus in Leo trine Chiron in Aries 8/15 – Sun in Leo square Uranus in Taurus 8/16 – New moon 23° Leo, Mars in Virgo trine Uranus in Taurus 8/21 – Sun in Leo trine North Node in Aries/sextile South Node in Libra 8/22 – retrograde Venus in Leo square Jupiter in Taurus, Mars in Virgo opposed retrograde Neptune in Pisces 8/23 – Sun enters Virgo, Mercury retrogrades 21° Virgo 8/24 – Mars in Virgo trine retrograde Pluto in Capricorn 8/27 – Sun in Virgo opposed retrograde Saturn in Pisces, Mars enters Libra 8/28 – Uranus retrograde 23° Taurus 8/30 – Full moon 07° Pisces

there have been some asks sitting unanswered in my inbox for an embarrassingly long time so I'm just going to go through and answer a bunch of them at once haha.
Sada and Turo / Paldea
Tumblr media Tumblr media
now that the dlc is out I can play around with my own version of paldea's story and the professors (that I may or may not actually talk about), but they won't be in the rainbow rocket stuff with supersymmetry. "officially" at least. maybe I'll draw something for fun, but I don't intend them to actually be in rr like the rest. they're more interesting to me within the story of paldea, especially with the ai aspects and ... other things going on there.
but to the anons who sent me these: those ideas are cool and honestly you should pursue them yourself!
Lusamine
Tumblr media
absolutely yes. in the base universe, her "unification" with nihilego kills her pretty quickly. iota lusamine is luckier since her nihilego seems to prefer keeping her around for longer. slow-acting vs fast-acting poisons, I suppose. by the time lusamine is picked up by rr, it's been about 6 months since she became jellyfish. who knows how much time she has left but her mental (and physical) state will continue to deteriorate along the way. an unsurprising consequence of willingly jumping into the mouth of a parasite
Tumblr media
possibly? I haven't given that much thought tbh. considering lillie and guzma's proximity to lusamine when she goes motherbeast, they'd both be lucky to make it out alive hahaha. but I could see all three of them trying to help people and pokemon in the UB-overrun world too
Tumblr media
honestly, no clue. I don't even think she knows, and she definitely doesn't care. who needs regular pokemon when she's got ultra beasts now! if lillie is still around she might have taken in a few of them herself though.
Other AU stuff
Tumblr media
I've actually made a post about team galactic here!
one fun fact about each of them:
maria/mars is giovanni and ariana's first child, and she ran from her home in kanto when she was 16 to become a pokemon trainer and get away from her parents. sorry silver (she hasn't contacted him in a while).
juno/jupiter makes traditional (hisuian) style pokeballs as a hobby despite the fact that they absolutely are not practical to actually use anymore. but they look nice
sterling/saturn helps run the in-universe equivalent of pokemon showdown because he's a nerd. he enjoys simulated battles more than the real thing most of the time
Tumblr media
great news: the rainbow rocket invasion all his fault!
by that I mean the choice of the base universe for invasion wasn't entirely arbitrary; rainbow rocket didn't just Show Up and hope this universe had what they wanted. beforehand, someone from rainbow rocket (either giovanni or archer, maybe even colress) scouted things out, and approached faba for information about the general state of the world and necrozma in particular. faba essentially sells out the universe (and aether's work with necrozma) in exchange for the promise of power and whatever tantalizing rewards the rr emissary offers haha. it's possible some of this involves planting a device to let rr come back to the right universe when ready too. what faba is up to when everything is going down in rr is not something that I've thought about, but he definitely gets found out for his actions leading up to it. oops!
Tumblr media
unfortunately probably not. the rr stuff is happening on the other side of the planet and I can't think of a situation which might result in them getting to meet up. I'm not enough of an expert on the two of them to say how such a meeting would play out either, but it would definitely be... interesting considering their own universe's version of the other person has been dead for several years.
Tumblr media
rose would probably be the least upset about it but cyrus wins the award for most upset (he has control issues). lysandre absolutely would have the most violent response to it though
Compliments
while I'm not going to share the collection of complimentary messages I've gotten over time, I want everyone to know that I really appreciate hearing that you enjoy my ideas and art! it's encouraging and I'm glad people like my pokemon playground hahaha. and that applies to tags too! it's always great to see... I don't always get around to actually answering the stuff in my inbox (whether it's actual questions or otherwise) but rest assured I do see it!

"Administrator of Chains"
I just learned about an interesting combination in astrology from an author named Julius Firmicus Maturnus, from his book Mathēsis, translated by Benjamin Dykes. This is at Book III, Chapter 5, Sentences 59-64, or p. 199-200 in the Dykes translation...
Here's the combination:
Sun in the 7th house
Mercury in the 7th or 6th or 8th ("same" house or matching houses)
Saturn in the 2nd place, or 5th, or 11th
Mars aspecting ANY of these previous three
Here's the delineation:
people who keep accounts of punishments
people who administer punishments
the administrators of prisons and public jails
people who manage [public] chains and bonds
people who lacerate the condemned with whips
and all those who engage in similar behaviors
BUT...
Maturnus goes on to say that the Sun doesn't have to be in the 7th house for this to be true... only that this Sun-in-7th is associated with the public/professional occupation as an exeuctioner/prison warden & the associated fame of this role. But he goes on to say this role (i.e., "keepers of accounts of punishments, and their administrators, keepers of jails, executioners, similar behaviors") true to a lesser & slower extent for anyone who has the pattern, thus:
Sun in one house - Mercury in a neighboring house - Saturn at the trine, the sextile, or opposing aversion;
Mars aspecting by the sextile, trine, square, opposition or conjunction, any one of the three planets.
He then goes on to add that if Venus or Jupiter also aspects Sun, Mercury, Saturn, or Mars, that a) the likelihood of a job as a prison guard falls away, but b) the role of a priest or libation pourer or administrator of a temple of some kind goes up.
I can think of a half-dozen of my clients right away, who operate either in pagan or kink spaces or both, who have variations of these sequences of planets. I didn't even have to research them deeply... I just read this combination, and in the moment I thought, "I wonder if [person X or person Y] has this combination?" And then I opened their charts, and they do.
And here's a piece of 1700-ish-year-old historical writing suggesting that this was a commonplace. "Oh, look, you have Mercury and the Sun in neighboring houses, with Saturn and Mars in a couple of aspects. Have you tried playing prison warden and prisoner in the bedroom yet? No? You might want to do that sooner rather than later, and with lots of negotiation and clear rules about consent."

Been thinking about Life Series correlations/analogies/metaphors/mythology lately, especially in regards to the impact of choosing the planet Mars to represent the latest winner, Martyn. I wasn’t really all that fond of the idea at first, considering people like Joel exist and seem like a much more accurate representation of the God of War. But after my discovery of Mars Silvanus, the aspect of Mars regarding the forest, I find myself much more okay with it. In no small part because it opens the door for other Roman/planetary comparisons to be made with the players. For instance:
Etho is Jupiter. The youngest of the oldest, the one nominally in charge but also the one no one actually listens to. Washed up, but still strong.
GoodTimesWithScar is Mercury. Because Grian is the Sun, it makes perfect sense for Scar to be the planet closest to it. Not to mention Mercury is known for being a bit of a prankster, as well as a rogue. He is also known as the son of Jupiter (and sometimes also of Ceres).
ZombieCleo is Ceres. A little-known dwarf planet in the asteroid belt named after the Roman version of Demeter - who just so happens to be one of Jupiter’s exes. They even reportedly had multiple children together: Mercury, Persephone, and Dionysus being some. She is also considered to be the new name taken by one of the oldest Titans: Rhea. A Titan who some consider to be the mother of Uranus.
Impulse is Saturn. Lesser known than his brother Jupiter, but also very strong in his own right. A being who knows when best to go with the flow - and also when to summon the storm.
Tango is Pluto. The most derided of the three brothers, the God of the Dead. How very fitting he was paired with the most death-associated person in the entire series. And also seems to be the first of his brothers to die.
Joel is Eris. Yet another dwarf planet, but this time names after the Goddess of Discord. Also reportedly the child of Mars and Venus, yet usually found on the outskirts of Olympus/the Solar System. True parentage heavily debated.
Bdubs is Io. A moon of Jupiter, a variation of the name Iacchus (a version of Dionysus).
Skizz is Neptune. The son of Saturn/Impulse, yet a giant in his own right.
Jimmy is Charon. The Ferryman of the Dead. Enough said.
